NFL Hall of Famer and actor Alex Karras was diagnosed with kidney failure. And serious as his condition is, it was said that the 77-year-old now only have a few days left.
It was said that Karras was recently released from a hospital in California. He was brought to his home in Los Angeles so he could spend his remaining days with his wife and kids.
Karras came to fame as one of NFL’s best defensive player. All throughout his NFL career, he played for the Detroit Lions and was a standout in the entire league for 12 seasons. He retired as a professional football player at the age of 35 in 1970.
But apart from playing as a defensive tackle, Alex Karras also played a number of television and movie roles. Probably, the most memorable characters of him were as the lovable father in the sitcom “Webster” and as Mongo in the movie “Blazing Saddles.” He was also an announcer in the early years of Monday Night Football.
Karras and his wife Susan Clark were also among the plaintiffs in a suit against the NFL about the league’s treatment of players’ head injuries.
